We all know and love Nantucket summer, with its bustling crowds, infectious energy, and long, sunny days on the water. Summers always seem to come and go too soon, but those who stick around know there’s still plenty of magic left on the island long after Labor Day.
Come fall, the island shows off its natural beauty in a different light, with fiery sunsets, vibrant foliage, and calm waters. We love throwing on cozy layers, breathing in the crisp air, and enjoying all Nantucket has to offer in its off-season.
THINGS TO DO ON NANTUCKET THIS FALL
Below are a few of the island’s upcoming fall festivities for a personal day, date night, or friend/family get-together.
1) EAT, DRINK, AND SHOP AT FLANNEL JAM
Surf and skate shop, Levitate, is heading to the island as a final leg to its annual Flannel Jam concert series. Grab tickets and head over to Cisco Brewers on Monday, October 13th to enjoy live music from a variety of bluegrass, jam, and folk bands.
Make sure you come with an appetite for food trucks, spiked cider, and hot cider donuts. There will also be an art show and Levitate merch to shop!
2) SOLVE A MURDER AT THE WAUWINET’S MURDER MYSTERY DINNER PARTY
Looking for a fun date night idea? Saturday, October 25th will be extra spooky (and extra fun) at The Wauwinet Hotel. The hotel’s restaurant, TOPPER’s, will be hosting their ‘last supper’ of the season in murder mystery fashion. Guests can expect dinner and a show, with an interactive Death of a Gangster experience starting at 6:30.
Dinner itself is a 3-course menu, with welcome drinks and an optional 2-course wine pairing. Additional event details and pricing can be found on The Wauwinet’s website.
3) SCAVENGE FOR SCALLOPS
One major perk to the island’s off-season is that it’s scallops’ ‘on’ season! Recreational scalloping season starts October 1st and runs through March 31st. Harvest up to one bushel per week Wednesday-Sunday.
Scalloping tips:
Before heading out, pick up your permit at 4 Fairgrounds Road (the Public Safety Facility - PSF)
Plan to harvest during low tide
Remember to release any scallops that are too small
Take advantage before Commercial scalloping begins in November
Dress warm but keep your scallops chilled! (after shucking)
4) CRUISE AROUND NANTUCKET HARBOR
